Rhythm. Memory. People. Stories.
Street Photography Masterclass
Dates: 02_04 October 2026
Istanbul is a unique city for street photography, with its rhythm, layers, and human stories.
It constantly generates encounters, tensions, transitions, and human narratives on the street. This city does not offer the photographer only aesthetic scenes; it also demands attention, patience, intuition, and the ability to position oneself correctly. History and the present, crowds and solitude, order and chaos, movement and stillness all exist here at the same time. This multilayered structure makes Istanbul not only visually striking for street photography, but also deeply instructive.
What makes Istanbul truly distinctive is that every corner holds a new possibility. But recognizing that possibility requires more than simply looking; it demands noticing at the right moment, standing in the right place, and being able to read the relationship within the scene. This masterclass focuses precisely on that practice of seeing and decision-making.

Overview
Istanbul Street Photography Masterclass is an intensive, small-group street photography program designed for international participants. Rather than approaching Istanbul simply as a visually impressive city, the workshop treats it as a living field shaped by rhythm, memory, human presence, and the potential for storytelling.
Throughout the program, participants actively make photographs in the city while learning not only what to photograph, but also where to stand, when to approach, when to wait, and how to read a scene. Moving beyond technical instruction, the workshop focuses on timing, intuition, framing, human interaction, ethical awareness, and the editing process.
The aim of this program is not for participants to take more photographs, but to develop a more conscious, more selective, and more consistent visual language.
Who Is It For
This workshop is designed for participants who are interested in street photography, documentary approaches, and searching for stories within the city.
It is not for those who are simply looking for a touristic photo walk, but for photographers who want to think in the field, sharpen their eye, improve their decision-making, and evaluate their photographs with a stronger editing perspective. Although the program is open to participants from beginner to advanced levels, its main focus is on those who take photography seriously and want to be actively involved in the process of making work.
This masterclass is especially suitable for participants who:
want not only to see Istanbul, but to read it through photography
want to develop reflexes, intuition, and timing in street photography
want to strengthen their practice in crowded, layered, and fast-moving urban environments
want to evaluate their photographs with a more critical eye
are looking for a small-group, feedback-oriented, field-based experience
What You Will Gain
This masterclass aims to give participants not only new photographs, but a new discipline of seeing.
Throughout the program, participants begin to understand more clearly:
how to observe more carefully in the street
how to make choices within visual complexity
how to approach a scene, or when to step back
why a photograph works, and why it may remain weak
how to select and bring together stronger images
how to recognize their own visual tendencies and repetitions
By the end of the workshop, the goal is to help participants produce photographs that are more controlled technically, stronger in content, and more consistent in terms of visual narrative. At the same time, they experience how to make more conscious decisions in the editing process and how to read their photographs not only individually, but as part of a larger whole.
Format and Duration
The workshop is designed as an intensive three-day masterclass.
Day 1 and Day 2
The first two days focus on actively making photographs in the streets of Istanbul. Participants work in different areas of the city, practicing how to read a scene, find the right position, develop timing, observe human interactions, and respond to light and movement. Throughout this process, they receive direct guidance in the field along with brief feedback.

Day 3
The third day takes place in a classroom setting. During this session, the photographs produced by the participants are reviewed together, with a strong focus on photo reading, selection, elimination, editing, and building a visual narrative. The aim is not simply to identify the strongest frames, but to understand why a photograph works, why it may remain weak, and how a stronger selection can be built.

Yes. This masterclass has an intensive structure. The goal is not to see as many places as possible in a short time, but to truly work and think in the field. Walking, observing, waiting, and trying again are natural parts of the experience.

Why does the third day take place in a classroom?
Because a strong photography workshop is not completed by shooting alone. Learning how to read, select, eliminate, and understand why an image works is one of the most important parts of the process. For this reason, the third day is a critical part of the program.
